GCSEs. GCSEs will be taken in to account when we consider your application but they are just one aspect that we look at. GCSE results will be considered alongside your personal statement, academic reference, predicted grades and performance in any written work or written test required for your course.
Can I get into Oxford with average GCSEs?
On average, our applicants hold around 80% of GCSEs passes at grades 8 or 9 (A*) and have 8.5 passes at grades 8 or 9 (A*) – although successful applicants may have a higher proportion than this. See our recent admissions statistics for further information on the average GCSE profile.
Do you need good GCSEs for Oxford?
There are no specific minimum GCSE grades required for Oxford. You certainly don’t need straight A*s, or even straight A*s and As. A couple of Bs in non-relevant subjects aren’t a barrier.
What grades does Oxford look at?
Offers for Oxford places are between A*A*A and AAA at A-level, depending on the course. (See course pages.) See a list of Oxford courses with conditional offers including at least one A*. A-level grades of students who applied in 2020 during the 2021 UCAS cycle.
Do Cambridge look at GCSEs?
There are no GCSE (or equivalent) requirements for entry to Cambridge. GCSE results are looked at as a performance indicator, but within the context of the performance of the school/college where they were achieved.
Can you get into Oxford with B’s?
Most Russell Group universities do accept Btecs; you can find a full list of Russell Group universities and their Btec admissions policies in this article, as well as advice on applying to university with a vocational qualification. The University of Oxford will accept Btecs alongside A-levels, depending on the course.
Do I need 4 A-levels for Oxford?

If you only take into account the general acceptance rates (for 2019), it appears that it is easier to get into Cambridge, as their acceptance rate across all colleges was 21.92%, whereas Oxford only admitted 14.25% of their total applicants.
Do universities care about GCSEs?
Many universities will look at your GCSE grades when deciding whether to offer you a place on their course. They used to look at AS level grades but most students do not do this qualification any more so they are paying more attention to GCSEs.

Can I get into Oxford with average grades?
If your GPA doesn’t meet the minimum required No. 3.0 is not even do not even bother applying. You simply will not get in. Oxford is hugely oversubscribed with qualified applicants you won’t even be considered.

Truthfully do I stand a chance? Yes, for courses where AAA is the entry requirement.
Do you need all 9s at GCSE to get into Oxbridge?
You definitely don’t need all 9s. A good GCSE profile makes you application look better, but your A level grades are much more important.
Do Russell Group Unis care about GCSEs?
Russell group universities would expect mainly A’s at GCSE. However if you have above requirement A level expectations e.g your applying for an ABB course but are on track to AAA they would be lenient to a fair degree on GCSE’s.
