URI is a dry campus, so most partying takes place off campus, usually at someone’s house or at nearby bars. Many beaches are also minutes away, but unfortunately they can only be used in September and late April/early May, due to cold winters.

Overall the students here are friendly and there are many opportunities for good memories on campus. URI is a great place academically. The amount of knowledge I gained here far exceeded my prior expectations. The faculty are extremely impressive, and some I would consider life changing.

Where do URI students hang out?
Most weekends I spend either hanging out at an off campus house or just hanging out in someones room. Some people are involved in fraternities and sororities. They are fun and there are approximately 15% of students involved in them. They do a lot of community service and aren’t all the typical stereotype.

Is URI a PWI?

Can freshman have cars at URI?
First-year students living on campus are not eligible to purchase a resident parking permit to park their vehicle on campus, however students can use off campus satellite parking options which are available to all of our students.
Are there frats at URI?
The 16 fraternities at the University of Rhode Island make up the Interfraternity Council. Each fraternity is a chapter of a national or international organization. The North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) is the governing body of those organizations.
Does URI have sorority houses?
Currently, the University of Rhode Island Greek community includes ten sorority houses and five fraternity houses with members living in residence.
