Requesting Exams
- Go to BYU Continuing Education.
- Log in with your NetID and password.
- Under Registered Programs, click the name of the course you want to view grades for.
- Click Assignments and Exams.
- Click Request Exam for the exam you want to take.
- Select the proctor you want to use for this exam.
How do I take the BYU Independent Study exam?
Sign into your course. Go to the exam folder or page in your course and request the exam. If you are requesting a final exam, make sure you have completed all previous course requirements. Select the option to take the exam online in your own home.
How fast can you finish BYU Independent Study?

BYU Online courses follow a semester schedule, while BYU Independent Study courses allow one year for completion.
Are BYU final exams proctored?
We require all our exams to be proctored, which means you will need to either use the online proctoring option BYU has provided or find a local proctor to complete your course. Online proctoring appointments need to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
How do BYU final exams work?
All exams must be taken in a proctored setting. All coursework must be completed prior to requesting the final exam, including all other exams. No assignment resubmissions are allowed after the final exam has been requested. All exams must be taken by the course expiration date.
How does BYU Independent Study work?
Students can register for an Independent Study course at any time during the year and have up to one year to complete most courses, although most courses are based on a semester’s worth of credit.
Where can I find a proctor for an exam?
Go to the National College Testing Association website to designate a proctor anywhere in the United States. You can also call campuses near your home to ask whether they have proctors. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the “NCTA Consortium of College Testing Centers” link.
Is BYU Independent Study hard?
It is a DIFFICULT, UNCOMPREHENSIBLE, UNHELPFUL program. It burns your interest out because of the horrible teaching and assignments. If you are looking to skip courses, or take courses over the summer, DO NOT USE IT. IT IS TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, JUST TERRIBLE.
Is BYU online self-paced?
Our courses don’t require scheduled lectures or live class times, but students do benefit from teacher contact and office hours along with all the other benefits of our traditional self-paced, flexible online courses.
Can you do BYU online?
Whether you’re traveling for the semester or looking for a more flexible class schedule, BYU Online is the perfect option. Take a blended course with a scheduled meeting time or attend class completely online. All of our courses are semester-based, so you’ll be on track with the BYU schedule.
How does BYU online proctoring work?
The proctor must maintain and enter them in such a way that they cannot be seen by the students at any time. During the exam, the student, the exam materials, and the screen of any computer used to take the exam must remain visible to the proctor for the entire duration of the exam.
How do I send my BYU Independent transcript to colleges?
Transcripts can be ordered as an electronic copy or paper copy to be mailed. Transcript questions can be sent to [email protected]; please be sure to include Net ID information when emailing questions.
How do I schedule a BYU exam?
Go to the Testing Center website at testing.byu.edu and sign in. Step Two: Click on the Faculty tab and select Schedule/Edit Test Dates.

Does BYU Independent Study count as college credit?

How do I proctor an exam online?
- There are four methods of online proctoring that are commonly used:
