Students have 12 months to complete a course. Because a majority of BYU Independent Study courses are asynchronous, the speed with which a student moves through the material is entirely dependent upon the student’s ability to master the content.
Is BYU independent study hard?

What happens if I fail a BYU Independent Study course?
Final Exam Retakes
Depending on the policies of each individual course, students may be allowed one retake of a final exam. If a student chooses to retake the final exam, he or she must request to retake the failed final within 30 days; otherwise, the initial failing grade is posted to the permanent record.
How do I take my final exam BYU Independent Study?
Sign into your course. Go to the exam folder or page in your course and request the exam. If you are requesting a final exam, make sure you have completed all previous course requirements. Select the option to take the exam online in your own home.
How does BYU Independent Study work?
Students can register for an Independent Study course at any time during the year and have up to one year to complete most courses, although most courses are based on a semester’s worth of credit.
Is BYU online self paced?
Our courses don’t require scheduled lectures or live class times, but students do benefit from teacher contact and office hours along with all the other benefits of our traditional self-paced, flexible online courses.
Are BYU classes hard?
BYU is a hard school. The majors are competitive, the pre-requisite classes are hard and are usually very large. Two of the hardest classes I have taken was first: Math 113 which is second semester calculus. One take that class if you have a really good foundation of calculus.

What does UC approved mean?
What does UC-approved mean? The California public university system has designated which of our classes they will accept as satisfying their “subject requirements” for admission. These subject requirements demonstrate that the student is prepared for the rigors of college work at the UC/CSU campuses.
Are BYU online courses NCAA approved?
BYU Independent Study high school courses are NCAA-approved. They are comparable to traditional classroom courses in their length, content, and rigor, and they prepare students for academic work at a four-year college or university.

Are BYU final exams proctored?
We require all our exams to be proctored, which means you will need to either use the online proctoring option BYU has provided or find a local proctor to complete your course. Online proctoring appointments need to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
