Rushing in college is a series of days where you meet the fraternity and sorority members, get to know them, and hope to build a connection. Through this process, the members will decide if they’ll invite you to join their fraternity or sorority.

What Is Rush? College kids who are interested in Greek life typically go through a ritual known as rush, which consists of a series of social events and gatherings that allow prospective and current fraternity or sorority members to get to know each other.
What is rushing for a frat like?
Fraternities often have a formal rush like sororities, but during rush, they also have informal events. During formal rush events, a potential new member would meet with all the fraternities, and depending on the university’s guidelines, visit their houses as well. Informal rush events are usually parties.
What happens during a rush?
Rush usually consists of a few rounds. During these rounds, sisters meet potential new members. The women talk, perform skits, sing songs and share personal stories about what the sisterhood means to them. As rush progresses, potential new members and sororities list their choices in order of preference.

Is it hard to get a frat bid?
It shouldn’t be too hard to get a bid if you’re a good fit. They’re talking to a lot of people so you want them to recognize that you’ve been coming out. Other than that, make sure you’re asking real questions about the fraternity.
How do sororities score you?
HOW ARE YOU SCORED? It is simple. Every round of sorority recruitment, you get a score. Your score for each round is added (or averaged) together to get an overall score.
What is dirty rushing?
Dirty rushing is when a Greek chapter specifically tells a PNM that if they want that chapter, it’s theirs. It can also include drinking/partying with PNMs and speaking to a PNM during the ‘silent period’ – the period after final party but before bid day where members of Greek Life are forbidden to speak to PNMs.
What do sororities look for?

Is it worth it joining a sorority?

Opportunities to drink seem abundant, but few Greeks pressure their peers to drink before a sober activity. The weekends are generally the only times binge drinking is common during an average week.
Do you have to be pretty to be in a sorority?
NO! Unless you are rushing at Florida or Arizona State, sorority girls come in all forms—tall, short, thick, thin, pretty, and not-so-pretty. Being pretty is a helpful indicator that you are fun and have social capital, but not the only consideration.
Does everyone who rushes get a bid?

Is it weird to rush junior year?
If you’re nervous or concerned about going through Rush as a sophomore know that it is normal and you will get through it. At the end of the day, every woman, regardless of grade level, is on their own journey to finding the perfect sisterhood for them.

Can you join a frat as a freshman?
It depends on the organization, but you are eligible to join most of ASU’s fraternities or sororities as a first-semester freshman. While many Sun Devils do join an organization in their first semester, some students opt to wait until their second semester.
