What is a good amount of schools to apply to?
8-12 colleges
In general, most students apply to 8-12 colleges. This is a good number to aim for, assuming that the applications you submit represent a broad variety of colleges. Usually, you will want to apply to at least 2 safeties, 4 targets, and 2 reaches. A safety school is a school that you are likely to get into.
Is 6 a good amount of colleges to apply to?
There is no magic number, but five to eight applications are usually enough to ensure that a student is accepted into a suitable institution (depending, of course, on the individual student’s record and circumstances). This number should be made up of a combination of “safety,” “probable” and “reach” colleges.
Is 9 colleges too many to apply to?
The College Board recommends that high school seniors narrow down their application list to five to eight schools. It’s okay to stray a little outside this range, but as a general rule of thumb you should aim to reach those numbers because sending more than ten applications can have drastic consequences.

How long does CUNY application review take?

Is applying to 16 colleges too much?
If you apply to 10 colleges to which you have a 25% chance of gaining admission, then you’re likely to gain admission to at least one of them. In fact, if you apply to 16 colleges with an average chance of admission of 25%, then you have a 99% chance of gaining admission to at least one of them, statistically.
Is applying to 12 colleges too much?
Most students should apply to somewhere between 12 to 15 colleges. There are no guarantees that you will be accepted to your desired school, but you should have a rough idea about your chances of admission to each school.
Is applying to 30 colleges too much?
What is the “Goldilocks” number of applications, neither too many nor too few? The College Board advises five to eight, and my answer is typically four to seven, but the truth is that it depends on the student.
What if I want to apply to more than 20 colleges on common app?
Information. The Common Application member colleges have stipulated that applicants may add up to 20 colleges. The college list cannot be expanded for any applicant. Once you submit an application, that college can no longer be removed from your list of colleges.
Do colleges know how many schools you apply to?
For the most part, the answer to this question is: no. College admissions officers don’t have secret meetings to gossip about which of the incoming freshmen applied to their schools. They are much too busy reviewing applications for that.

Can you only get into one CUNY?
A: CUNY will allow you to apply to a maximum of 6 schools. If applying to Macaulay, you can rank two for Macaulay and four for regular. You should be sure to list the schools in preference order – similar to how you ranked for Major Selection!
Do you need to write an essay for CUNY?

How many letters of recommendation do you need for CUNY?

Most programs require two letters of recommendation, but some may require up to three letters. Recommendations must be submitted on official letterhead. Recommendations should be submitted online as part of the online application.
Can you find out why you were rejected from a college?
Most institutions keep applications for one year. So, admissions officers can see the original denied application if the applicant reapplies the following semester. The general consensus is that a student should attend another college and apply as a transferee to one’s dream school after a year.
