University of Maryland Panhellenic Association is the governing body for the 16 National Panhellenic Conference sororities on campus. Can females join a frat?
Anyone of any gender, orientation or background is welcome to join, just as long as they meet the GPA requirement, as we are an honor fraternity, and go through the learning process of the chapter before officially becoming a brother.
Is Greek life big at UMD?
Greek Life is strong, with 42% of the student body affiliated with sororities or fraternities. Frat Row is located across from the main quad and appeared to be full of activity. School spirit is strong at the UMD, and students are proud of their Div.
How do I join a sorority at UMD?
You must have a 2.5 GPA and 12 credits in order to participate in sorority recruitment. While most houses require a 2.8 GPA to join, we still encourage those who do not have this GPA to attend fall open houses in order to better prepare for formal recruitment in the spring.
What do you wear to UMD rush?
Jeans, a blouse, or a casual dress with boots, booties, or flats are common for both potential new members and sorority members.
How do sororities pick you?
This matching process is called mutual selection.
Mutual selection starts with Panhellenic looking at your voting and the scores the sororities gave each potential new member. Then based on these lists, they optimize the best schedule for you! This optimized schedule gives you the most options.
Why do sororities drop you?
While you’re likely to do more partying and community service with your sorority sisters than taking tests, academics are still an important part of the Greek life. The New York Times reported that one of the most common reasons that sororities drop a pledge is poor grades.
How do sororities score you?
HOW ARE YOU SCORED? It is simple. Every round of sorority recruitment, you get a score. Your score for each round is added (or averaged) together to get an overall score.
What is sisterhood day for Rush?
Sisterhood Day is the third day of formal recruitment where PNMs visit up to seven sorority houses. On this day you will get to watch a slideshow of each house and get a more intimate look at what it truly means to be a sister.
What is sisterhood round?
During this round, you will meet all of the sororities on your campus. After you meet all of the sororities, you pick the sororities you want to go back to for Sisterhood Round. Also, The members are voting on the potential new members. They decide which potential new members to invite to Sisterhood Round.
