You are allowed unlimited edits to the essay after your first application submission. To edit your personal essay, go back into the Common App tab and click on the Writing section. Simply click within the text box and make any changes that are needed.
Can I change my Common App essay after submitting it to one college?
Once an application or writing supplement has been submitted to any institution, you cannot make any changes to that application (just as if you had dropped it in the mail), and we are not permitted to make changes on your behalf.

You can make any number of changes to your Common App essay — and any other component of your application — once you’ve submitted it. However, these changes will not be reflected in applications that have already been submitted; they will only appear in future submissions.

On the Common Application, if your mistake appears on any component other than the essay, you can correct it without creating a new version of the Common Application. If, however, the mistake was in your essay, then you will need to create an alternate version of your essay in the Common Application system.

The recs themselves can be submitted after the application deadline. The same rule also applies for the counselor rec; if it’s something that someone else is writing for you, it doesn’t have to be in by the deadline.

If a college wants a writing supplement, you have to submit it before the college application deadline. The only add’l docs that are permitted in general after the applications are due is if they didn’t receive a transcript because of a technical error from your HS school etc.
Do colleges Fact Check essays?
If you’ve fabricated your essay, you’ll be a little relieved to know that college authorities don’t typically pass essays through plagiarism checks. They rely on their intuition and experience to spot the cheaters.
What happens if I mess up my college application?
If you cannot resubmit your application, ask if it is possible for you to send in a revised essay. Chances are the admissions office will say yes to that request. If you entered inaccurate information, write a detailed email or letter to the admissions office stating the corrected information.
Will a typo get me rejected from college?
No. A single, minor typo will do nothing. So don’t sweat one minor spelling mistake, a missed comma, or a couple of transposed letters.
Can you use the same college essay twice?
