Our campus has a strong system rich with tradition. Today, we are proud to have a thriving fraternity and sorority system with 31 chapters on campus ranging from approximately 20 to 250 members making JMU Greeks 20% of the student population.

Twelve sorority houses are located on the west side of Newman Lake. Students in sorority and fraternity housing are assigned to double rooms with a community bath located on each floor. Laundry and vending facilities are provided.

How do I decline a fraternity bid?
You should only decline a bid if you are 100 percent sure that the particular fraternity is not for you. If you hold a bid and later choose to decline it, please be respectful and contact the fraternity that offered you the bid and let them know.

Is there hazing at UW Madison?

What is Continuous Open Bidding (COB)? Continuous Open Bidding is a very informal process that sororities use to take in new members. Unlike formal recruitment, there are no silence rules, no long days of going from party to party, or complicated invitation acceptances.
Why is Phi Mu a fraternity?
The Philomathean Society became Phi Mu Fraternity in 1904. Because the word “sorority” was not commonly used when Phi Mu was chartered, its proper name is Phi Mu Fraternity even though it is a women’s organization. Phi Mu has chapters across the United States and nearly 200,000 collegiate and alumnae members.

Bid Day – the final day of a recruitment period when bids are distributed. Bid Matching – a system for matching the choice of a potential new member with the choice of a chapter. Brother – an initiated or new/associate member of a fraternity. Chapter – the campus group of a national organization.

Can you rush multiple frats?
You get to choose which fraternity you rush, and you can rush multiple and if you get bids, you can accept or refuse. (You can obviously only accept one bid.) There are open rush events that every fraternity has, and you have to start there.
Should you rush a frat?
For many, it’s a matter of personal preference. Maybe a student’s mom, dad, or sibling was in a fraternity or sorority and the experience sounds exciting, or perhaps it’s an opportunity to try something new and branch out. Everyone’s reason for deciding to rush is different.
Can you’re rush a fraternity?
Can I leave and then rush another IFC fraternity? In most instances, you cannot quit your fraternity and join another one. All national fraternities are part of the National Interfraternity Conference (NIC). The NIC explicitly states that you cannot join another fraternity if you have already been initiated into one.
